For 2020, GMC has accepted the challenge to use technology to differentiate its Sierra 1500 premium pickup. From materials to the powertrain to onboard tech features, the Sierra 1500 is significantly upgraded for 2020.
Carbon Fiber Bed
In 2019, GMC offered the Sierra with the CarbonPro Bed, the industry's first carbon fiber pickup bed. Carbon fiber is five times stronger than steel and twice as stiff. Yet its flexibility makes it ideal for use in a pickup bed that is otherwise subject to scratches and dents. For 2020 the CarbonPro package is available in the Sierra AT4 with GMC's Onyx Black, Summit White, Satin Steel Metallic and Carbon Black Metallic styling packages.
Powertrain and Propulsion
A 10-speed automatic transmission is matched with GMC's 5.3-Liter V8 featuring Dynamic Fuel Management in 2020. The combination is standard on the 2020 Sierra Denali and AT4 models. It is also standard on 4-wheel drive Sierras in the SLE trim level and above. GMC is also expanding availability for its 3.0L Duramax 6-cylinder diesel. It will also be paired with the 10-speed automatic to provide 277 horsepower and 460 pound-ft of torque. The Duramax diesel reaches peak torque at just 1500 RPM. High torque at low RPM gives you exceptional power in low-speed operations like towing or off-road driving.
On-Vehicle Technology
The 2020 Sierra offers adaptive cruise control, the segment's first head-up display for vehicle data and a rear camera mirror with tilt and zoom. Its infotainment display system for 2020 is capable of supporting SiriusXM's 360L enhanced satellite and streaming option. GMC has also upgraded Sierra's towing technology for 2020. They include a 15-view trailering camera and an in-vehicle trailering app that manages trailer functions from hook-up to travel. The 2020 Sierra features smart trailer technology that enables features such as the transparent trailer view and control of trailer functions from your smartphone.
