For years, Ford has been the best seller when it comes to trucks. Right now, Ford dominates with its F-150 full-size truck and the Ranger mid-size truck. Now, it appears that Ford may be introducing an all-new sub-Ranger small size pick-up truck.

Ford Small Size Truck?

According to Carbuzz, Ford is working on a truck with the codename 758. This truck is rumored to be an all-new small pick-up that is designed to start at under $20,000. If this is true, then it looks like Ford is ready to expand its truck line to an all-new, untapped market.

Looking at Some Projected Numbers

Right now, the only Ford vehicle that is listed at under $20,000 is the Ford EcoSport. Therefore, it makes sense of Ford to offer another vehicle under that $20,000 price point. The small pick-up is expected to be built on the Ford Escape frame and will either be powered by Ford's existing 1.5 liter 4-cylinder or 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine.

Will This New Ford Small Truck Sell?

Ford is known for selling millions of trucks. Right now, the Ford F-150 is the bestselling truck on the planet. The Ford Ranger mid-size truck continues to sell in big numbers. If Ford does come out with this small pick-up truck, then it should sell really well. It will be interesting to see how Chevy and RAM respond since neither of them has their own small truck. That means Ford can dominate this segment for several years.

Who Would be the Target Market for a Small Ford Truck?

Ford pretty much knows its demographic for its full-size F-150 and mid-size Ranger. The Ford small truck may be targeted towards first-time buyers as well as people who live in the city. The smaller truck will sense in more congested environments. Also, a small Ford truck may be an attractive choice for those who find a big truck to be more than what they need.
